Four Matriarchs
Stained glass window designs for Beth Shaom Synagogue, Amstelveen, The Netherlands.
These windows depict the four Jewish matriarchs Sarah, Rebecca, Leah and Rachel.
Each window, composed of Jewish symbols, tells the story of one of the four matriarchs. The synagogue puts an emphasis on the importance of these four women in Judaism, which is quite rare.
Ecstatic surface design in stained glass window:
The use of the technique of stain glass, as an old-fashioned labor is an example of an ecstatic surface. With this technique, in their other works, Pinar&Viola intend to restore the dignity of ornament and decoration. The use of expert craftsmanship in the production process draws back the attention back to the place of the human interaction in the production process.
